Europe Land Cover Map
The European heartland is predominanatly farmland with forest remnants on slopes or in poorly-drained regions. Northern and northeastern Europe remain forested at low elevations, and grasslands dominate higher elevations in Scandanavia, the British Isles, and on the southeastern fringes of Europe.
Land cover reflects human use of the physial landscape. It provides a uniquely detailed portrait.
