Looking up from the Alabama Hills, the views of the Eastern Sierra are spectacular. Lone Pine Peak looms large in the foreground, and it's easy to wrongly assume that it's the highest peak around. The serrated ridge that rises further back seems less significant, but it is, in fact, the highest crest in the Lower 48, capped off by the superlative summit of Mount Whitney.
Elevations are shown in feet.
