It is the crown of the Pacific Northwest, higher than any other peak in the Cascade Range. Looming to the southeast of Seattle and Tacoma, Mount Rainier is as beautiful as it is threatening. The still-active volcano is adorned with glaciers on all sides and is visible for miles in every direction.
This view, looking at Tahoma (the indigenous name for Mt Rainier) from the north, illustrates the rugged terrain that surrounds the mountain while also showing its well-known neighbors: Mount Adams (Pahto) and Mount Saint Helens (Loowit).
Elevations are shown in feet.
