New England's highest peaks are found here in the heart of New Hampshire's White Mountains. Mount Washington stands above the rest, a 6,288-foot peak clad in windswept alpine tundra and bare rock that is exposed to some of the harshest weather ever recorded. Washington sits at the heart of the range, and the remainder of its truly high peaks lie to the north, curving around the Great Gulf in a chain of mountain grandeur with summit names commemorating some of the nation's early leaders.
This view, from the summit of nearby Carter Dome, showcases the highest peaks of the Presidential Range while also offering a glimpse into the Pemigewasset Wilderness beyond.
Elevations are shown in feet.
