The Rocky Mountains reach their zenith just outside of Leadville, where the Sawatch Range tops out on the 14,438-foot summit of Mount Elbert. Colorado's highest peak keeps close company with the runner-up as Mount Massive sits just to the north, and an array of other 14ers (and even more 13ers) lie nearby.
This view, looking west from the summit of West Sheridan in the Mosquito Range, stretches across the valley of the Arkansas River to the imposing wall of peaks that sits just east of the Continental Divide.
Elevations are shown in feet.
